Hi - I sent out my FIRST NEWSLETTER last night! Very happy with the service and software - but... some of the newsletters are opening in others' inboxes with a line (a crossout line) through most of the text and most of the pictures. Only a small part of the text looks unaffected. Also, the font I use in the original email is not appearing in some of the others' emails. Eg. I have chosen Arial and it is coming up as Times Roman. Is there a way to 'lock' the font that i use? Thank you Lucia |

I am replying to myself here - just need to add.... When the person clicks on the link to view the newsletter ONLINE, it is still appearing with lines through it on the web browser. Now I'm really not happy |

Hi Lucia, I've taken a look at the newsletter (Pelican Talk?), it looks just fine in the browser here. Have you edited it since sending it? Did you test the newsletter via self send function? It is always best to test it since email clients can some times display the newsletter pretty differently. If you've never used this feature, you can access it by going to "newsletters" page and selecting "send this newsletter to me", which is free of charge and you can use it as many times you like. I am not sure about the font and the cross out issues since I can't see them, it is possible that html some tags were overwriting one or more lines or they were just "read" wrong by the affected email clients. You said that "some of the newsletters are opening in others' inboxes with a line", if it is indeed just some out of all than that is rather odd, and might be just an issue with how the affected email programs display the emails. Since I can see the issues, best advice I can give you is to always test the newsletter using the above method, not only will you able to see how it looks, you may even spot mistakes or get an idea about formatting. Thank you |

Hi Qads - thanks for the reply. I did indeed test the newsletter by sending to self and it was fine. It has been opened by some clients with no probs - but i can only check with a couple. I am wondering how many are getting the crossed out text! Very odd. Luckily I only started with a fraction of the total subscribers. Can I forward the email (containing the forwarded newsletter) to you so you can see the crossed out text? Like I said it sent fine to me - in the same font, it sent fine to some, only changed the font, it sent with crossouts all through it to others. and this is no good obviously. I haven't edited the email at all since sending it and i didn't do anything dodgy with the html. Good luck - hopefully you can solve the prob as it may happen to others! lucia |

Hi Lucia, Please send a copy of the newsletter that you got to temp@mediatwo.com.au If you happen to have a copy of the newsletter which shows the crossed out / font change issues, please forward that along too. Thank you |

http://www.m2news.com.au/members/view.php?id=8114 Looks fine to me in the browser. (internet explorer, Google Chrome and Firefox). There is also nothing it the code to produce lines through the text that I can see. But we'd have to take a look at what you mean by lines. |

Thank you for the fwds. Did you create/edit the newsletter in microsoft word or another word processor at any time? or copied and pasted the newsletter contents or part of it from somewhere? I found a bunch of word html tags, they always cause random problems in normal web pages, and they cause even more in emails (the page does say not to use word + other tips). In all 3 emails, I did not find a single "times" font tag, so it might be caused by the email client it self, "times" could be the default font for some people if they changed their settings or their email client came with the settings. Also, though I highly doubt it, "Arial" might even be missing from the computer in some cases so it used times roman in it's place. In the crossed out words emails, I actually found <s> tags, telling the email client to cross out the words! while creating the newsletter, at any stage did you have crossed out words in the newsletter which you perhaps removed later? Finally, did you happen to send the newsletter while you were editing it? or did you finish editing completely, and the sent it? the reason I am asking this is because at the moment, it looks like you were editing the newsletter, sent and then edited it some more, so some people got crossed out words and some got the newer/fixed version. Of course, it might not be the case but just in case. Thank you |

Hi again, In answer to your questions: The only cutting and pasting I did was WITHIN the newsletter itself, but only with one of those articles - not with all of them. I cut one article and moved it up in the right column. I used the pasting icons as recommended. I didn't cut and paste anything from a website or word doco. Also i saved it before I sent it. that is, wasn;t in the middle of editing. i also didn't cross out anything - in fact, i wouldn't know how to. What a shame - i wonder how many got the crossed out version. Also, why would the girl who received cross outs even see them in the web browser when she clicks on view this online? Thank you for looking into this. Lucia |

The word tags may have come from the fwd, they might be using outlook or some other MS product which likes to inject code into emails I guess. What's odd is that the same person who reported and saw crossed out version of the newsletter also sees the online version crossed out, since we tested the email and the online version on about 4 computers, 3 major browsers (across at least 5 versions), I think it's just that person's computer which for whatever reason is showign the crossed out words, the code for crossing out the words is not even in the email! Did just one person reported the cross out issue, or were there more? if it's just one then I bet it's the computer setup. Thank you |

Just the one person. I have contacted someone else and they said it was received fine. Thanks for your help - Leave it for now, and if I receive any other comments along the same lines (excuse the pun) - maybe we could look into it further. |
