I'm curious - what actually happens when you click the demo link in www.freesites.com.au? | |||

Hi Roger, I think that people who haven't already signed up for a website aren't supposed to be allowed to login to either the main site, or the demo one that you gave the link above to. I've come to this conclusion after going around to a couple of mates places and tried to login into it from their computers, and they tried under their own names too, but none of us could do it. I can understand not being able to get into the main one without signing up for a website, that's common sense, but I don't see the point of locking people out of the working demo one when they're trying to find out if the system is what they are looking to buy into, just as I've been attempting to do, but there ya go lol. Its just that I'm pretty dumb when it comes to stuff like creating/working with a website and wanted to find out if I'd be able to work it without constantly having to ask stupid questions of blokes like you and waste your time. However, I think that I will buy into your company's websites, but in doing so I'll warn you now that you'd better brace yourself against my future dumb questions until I get familar with how it works and get my own site working and looing the way I want it to. I have one other question for you at this stage before I leave you in peace for the time being .... How many different pages would each website be allowed to have as a max? For example in my instance: Home page About Us Children's Book page Adults Book page Our Magazine page Contact Us (General info) Contact us (Magazine Editor) Author Submission Guidelines Artists Submission Guidelines & a couple or so more Thanks for all your help mate. |

There is no maximum amount of pages, you can have as many as you like. As for the demo, I don't know what you mean by 'they tried under their own names as well'. Clicking the demo link should take you straight into the admin area for the demo site, there is no login field. I just tried it in Internet Explorer 8 for the first time (because that's not the browser I normally use) and it took me straight to the page that says "Welcome to your Freesites Manager for demo.freesites.com.au". I wasn't asked for a username and password. So what exactly happens when you click the 'demo' link? |

The link that I have been talking to Roger about is this one: www.m2cms.com.au and that does demand a login as soon as you get there, whereas the link you're talking about now Marianne takes you straight into the demo on that site, but that demo doesn't permit you to work with it as a proper trail. That's why Roger offered the other link to me if you read back in this discussion. He was trying to help me out so I could play with the demo on the other site to try and learn if even a dumbarse like me could work the system is all. |

I should also add that while my computer that I'm working from at this moment uses WindowsXP with the ver 8.0 browser my new laptop uses Windows7 with the same browser, but it makes no difference to being able to login to the demo site that Roger offered me. I therefore have to conclude that we're not meant to be able to get in there to use that demo unless we have signed up to a website deal with Freesites. It no big deal as far as I'm concerned, just a little strange compared to other companies offering similar services that do allow to to play with that sort of demo model before you commit to buying anything is all. Thanks for answering my other question btw. |

Didn't I tell you that I was a dumbarse? I was at fault the whole time by not readiung what it clearly says above the login area, but I just noticed it and got in immediately. I apologise for taking up your time and effort. |

lol, I think I know what you were doing, and I'll take part blame, I should have said to login with username demo and password demo at www.m2cms.com.au -- That system isn't connected with freesites, it's just another content manager system we have and offer to clients who get their site designed by us. Cheers, And no problem with being a dumbarse! we're all dumbarses until we learn stuff aren't we |

Ya got it in one Roger lol. Anyway, I've been having a bit of a play since I got in there and am totally sold on Freesites websites and will be signing up when I get back from my business trip starting tomorrow. I just want to make sure I'm around for a few days after I sign up just to make sure I don't go stuffing up on anything else. Thanks for all your help and patience once again mate. Signing off for now, King Dumbarse |

lol, no worries. There are more improvements to the freesites system coming this week too, we've found a few little things to make it even easier to use, such as the editor showing the fonts and styles that the design template selected for your site shows, so it better matches the actual site you work on in the looks department. Oh, and I logged in and spruced up the demo site today too, gave it a gallery and a few new pages. Cheers, Roger |
