Yes, it's quite simple. www.freesites.com.au has your web address (ie. your search term) listed on the home page, so a search in google for that will bring up all the sites that have that search term text on a page in the site. I notice that you also have that text on your home page, so in time google will find your site and index it. However, that result is completely useless. The thing is, no one will search for your web address, because if they know your web address then they would simply type it into the browser address bar and go directly there. What people search for is a product or service, so you need to make sure your site will show up for those sort of searches. To find a site such as yours, people would type in 'visual artist braidwood' for example. Also, keep in mind that your site has only been up for a week, so Google hasn't visted it, and therefore hasn't indexed anything from your pages. |

Dear whoever, What is a realistic time to expect google to index my site using a direct search of my web address ie: the actual address, not a random search by hopeful punters but people who have been directed to it through complementry advertising & business cards????? Cheers JB |

Hi, As I said, Google doesn't need to index your site for people to be able to visit it - they can type your web address into the ADDRESS BAR in their browser, and not search for it using a search engine such as Google. That's how everyone visit websites, they type the web address into the address bar of a browser. As far as how long google will take to visit your site and index it, They say up to 6 weeks. Don't forget, you can submit your site to Goole at http://www.google.com/addurl/ |

Hi, I was just reading the last comment left here by Roger about anyone knowing what the URL is of your website only needs to typoe it into the address bar of their browser to find the site. I've done that a couple of times to see what happens and I only get the website come up for Freesites in reference to my own website, so even that doesn't work. I'm certainly hoping to see search engines showing MY website instead of Freesites soon I accept it takes a few weeks to get Google and others to list new Freesite websites but while we're waiting for that to happen our websites can't generate business interest when they can't be found by any means other than to act as an advert for Freesites. My old website was showing on all major search engines within 48 hours of it being made open and available to the general public, just as many others I know about are, so I can't quite work out why it takes 6 or more weeks for it to happen using Freesites website services. Please explain? |

hi, if you type your website address into your browser's address bar, then it will show your site (how can it not when you are going directly to your web address.) - if you type your website address in and you end up some place that is not your website, then you didn't type it into your browser's address bar. Instead, you made your browser perform a search for your domain, instead of telling it to go directly there. Web browser usage 101. The "freesite website services" as you put it has nothing to do with anything. Your website is live on the internet like any other website, all we do is provide hosting, and a way to edit your pages. Search for 'search engine optimisation' and learn all about how to get your site listed for the search terms that people would use. And STOP searching for your website address, there is no point in that because people would never do that. Isn't that obvious? If I wanted to find a cleaner on the northside of brisbane, would I search for 'cleaner brisbane northside' or would I type in the web address of a cleaner's website? - obviously I would search for 'cleaner northside brisbane' - if I already knew the website I wanted to find, I wouldn't search for it, I'd type it directly into the browser's address field, and go directly there. If you do type your website address into google, and it doesn't find your site, it obviously means google hasn't visited it ye, and there is nothing we can do about what google visits and what they don't (I wish I could control google!). Sometimes google visits sites quickly (like in 24 hours of it being live, especially if it has links to it, and other times it takes weeks. Ask google. |
